Kevin Winkler
Platform Engineer
Kevin Winkler is helping to further build, develop, and scale Culmination’s proprietary Intelligence Platform.
Before joining Culmination, Kevin was a Systems Engineer Team Lead at Epic, responsible for managing a small, yet focused team. Additionally, he was the Performance Pod Lead, leading a group of engineers to improve systems and ETL performance across hosted customers. While at Epic, his emphasis was in furthering large customer scalability meetings involving performance, storage, compute, systems, and infrastructure engineers, to improve multi-team coordination and to discuss software and hardware changes that would likely improve performance for the largest hosted customers. He broadened the team’s understanding of reliability by creating and teaching a course on high availability and disaster recovery.
Before working as an engineer, Kevin conducted research in multiple labs. His research began as an undergraduate researcher in a cell biology lab at the University of Colorado Boulder, where he investigated how mechanical forces impact cloning efficiency. This research led to an undergraduate thesis and a poster presentation at the 13th Workshop on Cyanobacteria. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Biochemistry from the University of Colorado Boulder, graduating magna cum laude with distinction.
His undergraduate research led to him becoming a Gates Summer Intern at the University of Colorado Anschutz, where he joined a hematology/oncology lab. Over the next two years, he investigated how to engineer immune cells better to target tumor cells.
Kevin enjoys hiking with his family, skiing, and backpacking in his free time. His most recent adventure was a four-day backpacking trip out in the Wind River Range in Wyoming.
